There isn't anything better than when passion lines up with purpose. Helping someone live well motivates me more than anything else.
Two Lauras started out as a social media username, @2lauras (which, at the time, I didn’t know was visible to the public) and seemed to become a reality as I lived the life of the corporate road warrior. I traveled to small airports all over the U.S., sometimes visiting three cities in a weeks time. I was away from home so much I joked that I was actually becoming two Lauras. The experience of traveling in that way opened new perspectives and gave me confidence out in the world but coming home at the end of each week was what fortified me. I missed home and eventually I hung up my backpack for life on the ground.
Being rooted in a lifestyle that brings me home most nights feels right for me. Home is where I find my creativity. I now see Two Lauras as a concept that recognizes the human need to fully integrate our inner and outer lives and that that is our journey. Our homes help us with that.
In his essay on intimacy, designer Bobby McAlpine points out that, “Typically the ego builds the house, but the heart is the one most desperate to be housed.” And that the walls of our homes “take over the job of the psyche, becoming our armor and expanding the territory of the heart in a subtle but important way.” Indeed, a functioning well cared for home offers support for our lives.
Two Lauras Design looks at design from a holistic standpoint, with a goal to enhance the lives of others through their homes.
